The Key Components to Losing Weight and Keeping it Off

Admin | February 12th, 2010 - 12:12 pm

It has often been said that it is easier to gain weight than lose it. If you have been struggling for some time to lose weight, you most likely understand the truth of this statement. Understanding a few basics about weight loss can help you to achieve your weight loss goals.

First, it is important to understand that barring any underlying medical conditions there are usually three reasons for finding it difficult to lose weight. You may be either consuming too many calories, not engaging in enough exercise or a combination of both.

When you are trying to lose weight, one of the most important things you can do is reduce your caloric intake. In order to stay healthy, remember that you do need protein, carbohydrates and fat, but you need to make sure you get them from the right dietary sources. Make sure you are making healthy eating choices such as fresh fruits and vegetables, oats, whole grains and lean meats and fish. Avoid highly processed foods and foods that contain a lot of sugar. These foods are usually laden with calories and do not contain a lot of nutrients. In addition, try to cut back on alcoholic beverages as well. The sugar in alcohol contains a wealth of calories that can easily wreck your diet and plans to lose weight.

Make a commitment to exercising on a daily basis. Even something as simple as walking can help you to get healthy and lose those extra pounds. Walking is also a great way to become more physically active if you have not been working out regularly and have been sedentary until recently. Set a goal of trying to walk for at least thirty minutes each day, three or more times per week.

Finally, remember that eating healthy, cutting down on calories and exercising regularly are the key components to losing weight, but you can also help to boost your weight loss by making a commitment to living a healthier lifestyle. The ability to lose weight and keep it off for good is based on making healthy lifestyle changes for the long term rather than focusing on short term solutions that are likely to result in disappointment.

Putting an End to Yo-Yo Dieting

Admin | February 11th, 2010 - 12:46 am

For many people, trying to lose weight is much like a rollercoaster ride. They lose the weight only to gain it right back along with a few additional pounds. This type of yo-yo dieting can be depressing and furthermore, it can be detrimental to your overall health. Rather than engaging in fad diets, the real key to losing weight and keeping it off is developing a new mindset and changing the way you go about your daily life.

Fitness and health experts agree that many of the issues that are associated with difficulty in losing weight are often linked to mental issues rather than physical problems. In order for a weight loss plan to succeed, you must be both mentally as well as emotionally prepared, otherwise you will be at a much higher risk for failing to meet your goals over the long term.

Most people find that diets do not work for them. This is because many diets are designed to work in the short term, when what you really need is a long term approach that will help you to transform the way you think about food. Many people actually fail to realize that everyone, at any given time, is always on a diet. A diet is simply what you eat. It can either be healthy or unhealthy. To lose weight and keep it off you need to focus on a healthy eating strategy as part of an overall healthier lifestyle.

The key to success for many people is motivation. If you do not feel motivated, you will be far less likely to make the effort that is necessary to create a healthier lifestyle. One of the most important things to understand is that most people who start out following a healthier lifestyle are rarely motivated. The important thing is to actually get started and you will likely find that motivation will soon follow.

Remember, health and fitness can only occur as a result of healthy living and a mindset that is based on living a healthier lifestyle. It is only by making changes in the way that you think about weight loss and improving your health and fitness that you will be able to actually make positive changes within your life.

Planning for your Weight Loss Success

Admin | February 10th, 2010 - 12:23 am

Successful weight control relies on a variety of factors, including the ability to plan for realistic goals. Far too often, many people make the mistake of establishing lofty goals that simply are not realistic. While you may have heard of diet plans that will allow you to lose up to ten pounds a week, such diet plans do not allow for long-term success. Instead, it is much healthier and more effective to plan to lose between one and two pounds per week. While your weight loss may be slower, it will be more effective and you will have a better chance of keeping the weight off.

Second, it is important to remember that losing weight is a long-term plan. If you make a mistake and go off your diet, it is imperative that you get right back on your plan immediately. Do not give in to the temptation to continue binging or throw away your diet altogether. Keep in mind that you did not put on the weight overnight and it will not come off overnight. Through dedication and a concentrated effort you will be able to lose the weight and keep it off in the future.

Third, make sure that you choose a healthy eating plan that is based on sound nutrition. Steer clear of any diet or eating plan that requires you to radically change your behavior. Such diets ultimately only lead to failure because they are incredibly difficult to stick with in the long term. Starvation or fasting diets as well as diets that are based on extremely low calorie counts are not only ineffective but have also been linked to serious health risks.

Furthermore, when your body is deprived of food for a long period of time, your body is forced to make adjustments, including the depletion of energy reserves that are crucial to your overall health. The diets that are usually the most successful are based on healthy eating choices and do not require you to make any drastic behavior changes. Planning realistic weight loss goals, dedicating yourself to your goals and selecting a healthy eating plan will not only allow you to meet your weight loss goals but will also allow you to maintain optimal health.
